What is it about 'Climbing Lanes' that bring out the Ayrton Senna in people?

Drive through a few climbing lanes on a daily basis and the fruit the loops that drive in them never cease to amaze me!

I could be stuck in a line of 3 or 4 cars plodding along at 60kph on a long stretch of road where 100kph is the limit, there's no chance to overtake safely so sitting patiently is the name of the game. Suddenly, at the bottom of the 'Climbing Lane' the car that's been holding everyone up decides to floor it up the hill thus preventing folk overtaking... and as soon as they reach the end of the lane they return to crawling along.

I hate every single one of you that do this!

This drives me nuts. I think it's that people dooter along without giving a sh*t, then when they see the overtaking lane they just won't accept being taken over and floor it. I take over them anyway, I don't care if I go over the limit. It happens too much, far far too much.

I see something similar on a daily basis traveling from Cork to Dungarvan. Car travels about 70 kph when there is no way to overtake (traffic on other side of road, solid white line etc) but the minute there is an opportunity to overtake they speed up until it's not possible to overtake and they go back to 70 kph.
Last week a car second in line tried to overtake and the car in front kept accelerating so the two cars were neck and neck for what seemed like ages (probably about 10 seconds though). The overtaking car eventually got ahead and the car that was overtaken drops back to his crawling speed, what is up with these people?

Some people are just bellends; simple as. Its the same as the dickheads on a motorway who put the foot down when you pull into the overtaking lane to go past them, or insist on blasting past you when you pull back in only to sit in front of you doing half the speed limit again. Some people are just thick ignorant morons; no point trying to figure them out or it will give you a headache...

I came up from Cork a few weeks ago and set the cruise at 120kph and never touched the accelerator. Same car overtook me 14 times in the space of 30 mins. He'd blast past and then slow down, I'd catch up and over take and the cycle would continue. By the end he was looking at me as he went past like I had 2 heads.. Was funny though.

I had that on M8 between Portlaoise and Cashel. I never once came out of cruise control. By the third time I got really annoyed and flashed the fool as I started to overtake again. They still continued this until Cashel exit another 2 times.

The climbing lanes in Monaghan is where I saw the behaviour OP was on about. And to top it off, the guards are regularly sitting there at the top of the hill waiting for the frustrated driver to blast past.
