Saorview reception fine until recently

Have a Walker Saorview box for about 18 months with a booster and indoor aerial. Reception was perfect until the last few days. Since then it has become completely unwatchable on all channels, constantly freezing sound and picture.

I cannot have an outdoor aerial installed.

    Any advice?

Are you in Dublin? Did you retune to UHF channel 30 when Three Rock switched to that channel a while back? Or maybe you get a better signal on ch. 54 from Kippure?

Yes, I'm in Dublin. When did it change?

When I do a manual scan both 30 & 54 vary from "very good" to "poor" in a matter of seconds. The coverage checker says I should be on 54 (30 is closer though), but I'm on 30. I can't seem to manually save to 54 though. There is no 'save' button or anything like it.....see this: IMG122.jpg

It actually changed back on the 10th of July. I just wondered if you might have been getting by on a marginal signal since then & some slight change had thrown it off in the last few days.

Your problems could be down to some form of electrical interference: people have started switching on the heating since last week. This can be a source of trouble, especially for indoor aerials.

I just unplugged the booster and it made no difference whatsoever. perhaps the booster (only 18 months old) is knackered?

If so, can you recommend a good booster and while your at it, a good indoor aerial?

Did the booster ever make a difference? Once the signal level is above the minimum recommended, a booster really only introduces noise & worsens signal quality.

Yes it did make a difference when I first got it.

How fast is your broadband speed?

You could try streaming all saorview channels for free.

You could also try something like this

Well, if reception really was reliable up until recently, & it seemed that you had happened on a setup that worked, then it would make sense to try to restore that situation, in the absence of a better alternative.

For now, maybe try removing the booster & moving the aerial around. Signal strength indoors can vary a lot over small distances in the horizontal & vertical planes, although this effect shouldn't be as pronounced as it was with analogue signals.
