    Hey lads,

Need to get to the bottom of this it's driving me nuts.

I was with upc 20Mb for my broadband recently changed to eircom Mb.

Anyway when trying to play MW3 online I keep getting error code 3456 or 256 or something along those lines.

So after trying to find about these error codes online loads of differing answers my only solution is to turn on the ps3 then turn off the router then reconnect to PS network than it might let me go online.

This is doing my head in has anybody else had this happen to them and know of a solution?

I should point out never had this issue when I was with upc is it something to do with dropping my broadband speed?

    Any help appreciated :D

It sounds like some sort of set up with your ISP.
What did they say when you spoke to them?

I wouldn't say it has anything to do with your speed, you don't need a lot of speed to play online.

I'd change back in a heart beat but we had phone and broadband with them and it was hard to get a consistent bills off them they kept charging us for numbers we didn't call or free phone numbers we rang so the boss put her foot down.

I was onto eircom before and they had no interest kept saying they checked the line and that it was all perfect would it be somethin to do with to many things on my wifi. 2 phones a lap top and ps3? I know little to nothing about computers networks etc it took me a min to figure out ISP :D

Get the phone and BB back - never, ever use the phone.
We only use our phone to receive calls.

    Maybe.
Can you go wired with your PS3?

I'm gonna hang on till I see what sky are planning with their phone and BB although from the sounds of it it's gonna be pants.

That'd involve me having to run cables and all the rest of that although it may be the only option at this stage. It's probably down to the cheap ass router they include for free.

I presume the wireless is working ok with everything else and speeds are ok on those devices.

If its the new zxgel modem it might need a firmware upgrade(you'll have to ring tech support to find out)

Also log into the modem(type 192.168.1.254 i nto a browser and the passworsd is broadband1) and turn the firewall off and perhaps change the wireless channel to 1 or 11 and save

No joy yet changed the channel and turned off the firewall on the router but no difference.

I'll give them a call and see what they suggest no doubt I'll get the usual the lines not showing a fault.

one thing you could do to rule in/out the modem is borrow another eircom router that you know works fine(ideally off a mate that plays CoD no problem) and see if the issue persists.

Yeah I might try that I was with them before and the router was different so I'll route out the old one in the attic and see how that goes.

Was it foolish of me to think their new router would be better than the old one, old router has 2 aerials new router has one longer one?

That'll be tomorrows task along with a call to tech support to see about a firmware upgrade.

Had the same problems initially with eircom and on-line gaming. Google "keep it Carlow" (I think) on youtube. It brings you through the steps of setting-up your PS3 on wireless so that you can play games on-line issue free.

Right I've tried all of the above and none of them worked.

So i was onto Eircom tech support this morning looking for my PPPoE username and trying to figure out what the hell was up.

After a long drawn out affair they ultimately could do sweet Fa for me.

So up to the attic I go to route out my Vodafone router (pun intended :D). Well blow me down here I am typing this while waiting for a game to start on MW3 so to surmise I can only think that the router Eircom provide is a piece of crap as they will only gaurantee their service to the router (no wireless gaurantee I now see why)

Anyway all seems to be sorted now happy days thasnks for the tips :). Oh yeah couldn't get that NAT1 Keep it Carlow are on about to work. Kept getting a failed connection.
