When I turn on the central heating there is a smell of oil in thekitchen/utility room. The boiler is outside. It was serviced recently and isworking fine. I'm wondering if it might be a leak in a radiator/pipe but can'tunderstand where a smell of oil would come from as the tank and boiler are botha good distance from the house. the smell is so bad it would turn your stomach.any help would be much appreciated

There are lots of ways the oil can be getting into your house, turn it off and get the engineer back to check it.

+1, turn oil of at the tank until inspected

I had a case a couple of years ago where the oil tank was at one side of the house and boiler was on the other side. The installer ran the oil line through the floor of the house with compression joints under the concrete floor. It, of course, leaked when the house settled and destroyed the living room floor. Half the house was taken down and rebuilt.

do you have a window open close to the boiler? or air vent.

There is no vent or window open near the boiler and the same smell of oil is not coming from the boiler when its on. I'm going to get the plumber back and see what he can do.

I'm guessing that it could be a leak in a hidden pipe going to the radiator because I bled one recently and the water had the same smell. we'll see what the plumber thinks!

    Thanks all

There wont be any oil in the radiator pipe. Maybe its just a bad smell of dirty water you are getting if you recently bled it??

Hi, thanks for the advice, i got the plumber out. turns out there was a leak in the oil pipe near the boiler. He thinks the oil could have been coming into the house on the exterior of the water pipe. all fixed now however it was getting in,
    thanks
