Leapcard over charging

    Hi all,

Any one else having a problem with over charging on their leapcard?

I get the dart from Dalkey (Touch on and off have been broken on and off over the past few weeks) and I get off at grand canal dock everyday. I have noticed large amounts of over charging on my card (12.90 in the past 2 weeks). I do touch on and off properly and wait for the beep, many times I have had to run over the other side of the train station to which it is also broken at times. I get charged two 4.30's (8.60) for one journey when it should only cost me 2.10 for the one journey.

I know their have been more but I can't see my full history since I started using the card a few months ago. I can only see a certain number.

I have contacted customer care but have not gotten a reply.

Any one else having this problem, or may have this problem but don't know about it yet?

I think it's back to using coins at this stage because it is a considerable amount of money I am losing.

    Thanks,
    Thezappa.

Has happened to me before and I've always been refunded.

I assume they look at your regular travel history and know where you should be getting on and off normally and adjust the refund to that.

However it sounds like you are tagging on twice, rather then tagging on and then off.

You know you should only tag-on at the gate facing inwards, and only tag-off at the gate facing outwards or tag-off at a standalone machine. I don't think you should tag-on at a standalone machine. The screen should tell you if it tagged on or tagged off and by how much.

I agree if this sort of stuff happens too often and people can't get refunds easily (I'm looking at you Dublin Bus), then people will go back to cash which would be a disaster for Leap.

BTW if you register your card online you can see your full history of the cards usage and spot any overcharging.

As Bk said, the gates are directional, entering the platform will only do tag ons, while exiting the platform will only do tag offs (But if there was no tag on before hand, it'll will charge you the 4.30).

The poles however are not set directionally. You can tag on/off at them.

FWIW... the hardware problem is for IR to sort out. And they seem to be in no rush to do it.

    Thank you for the replies.

I only tag on the right direction entering the platform but the dalkey touch on's are broken so if you put your card up to it, it tags you twice for unknown reasons. The screen is stuck and their is no beep (Also happens to everyone else that has a leapcard) I also tag off in the right direction (leaving the platform) at grand canal dock too.

It's a problem with the touch on and off at dalkey. It doesn't register the cards or if it does it registers it twice.

I heard back from Leapcard customer care and they are going to refund all my extra charges, which is great.

That is great, but hopefully they fix the readers as quickly as possible.
