    Hi there,
I've a five-year-old with a few early decay issues in mind, and house has been "de-treated". Not want to be the parent from Cruelville, are there any sugar-free chewing gum/ice-creams out there that don't contain Aspartame?
    Thanks.:pac:

Don't know about ice cream or chewing gum but if you happen to be up north stock up on the asda cordial ( they stopped using aspartame in their own brand products a few years ago)

Don't want to stir up anything but wasn't the aspartame is bad theory debunked?

Curious what did the dentist recommend?

Remember dental decay has a lot to do with frequency of sugar intake not just the sugar. Treats are ok so long as they are consumed in one go and that a sufficient amount of time is in between them, all day grazing is bad. Surgery drinks are not a good idea. Again follow the dentists advice.

I wouldn't worry about aspartame. There's absolutely no solid evidence to support it having any negative health effects in the quantities most people would consume it at.

Drinks-wise, water and milk! Which to a five-year-old might as well be petrol or diesel!

Xylotl (this is the stuff we use) is actually recommended by dentists as good for teeth and is a great substitute for sugar. We found a homemade ice-cream recipe and the little one loves it.

Dentist said crusty bread, water melon, apples, plain nuts etc are ideal. Just nothing sticky, especially smoothies.

Also, you can get sugar and aspartame-free yoghurts and crisp-like packets of flavoured mini rice cakes in Tesco/Superquinn. She loves those too. It's just a case, we've found (only in the past week) of saying no for 3 consecutive days and they quickly change habits. That's exactly what the dentist said would happen too :)
