Radiators not coming on

    Hey all,

I know this has been done to death on here but I wanted to give my details in the hope someone can help me out.

All the radiators in the house are turned on, however only one of the upstairs rads come on, all downstairs are working fine.

I have tried bleeding all the non-working ones upstairs and water is coming out fine. The pipes on both sides of all the non-working rads are cold so there is nothing getting to them at all, however the one working one is heating up fine...why could this be happening?

Should the heating be on for a while before I try bleeding or does it matter?

Are there any other steps I could try cos it's coming into cold weather now and the children's rooms arent heated at night.

    Cheers!

have you a zoned system for upstairs
if so is the thermostat turned up
check that the minivalve is open(usually in hotpress)there is a manual over-ride slider on the side

But would the one rad come on if the zone valve was closed? It could be an air lock or blockage or pump failure that is giving weak circulation.

Try turning off all other rads off except for ones that are not heating. Otherwise check pump.

I don't know what you mean by zoned but yes we have a thermostat upstairs and downstairs and both are turned up. I'll check the hot press and see if there's anything like a mini valve

If you have a gas boiler, they are normally built into the boiler and if so, you would require an RGI to work on the appliance. If the pump is external to the boiler, the most likely location would be in the hot press but could also be on the pipework just outside the boiler.

If it is oil, then the above could apply but usually close to the boiler.
