I was told that it is possible to go to Bord na Mona and buy a trailer load of turf. My parents didnt make turf this year and I was thinking of going to Offaly or somewhere to buy turf.I read somewhere that production was down 37% on previous years.
Does anybody know if/where turf can be bought or is this a thing of the past?? Would be coming from the Longford/Roscommon direction.

I think it was briquettes and not turf you could buy, my brother in law used get it.

He went to their Derrinlough factory

Definitely turf.Few years ago they bought a trailer load from someone who used to buy from Bord na mona and sell on...I could be mistaken, in that it was Bord na Mona supplied, but that was what they were told at the time.

Bord na mona dont cut turf, its only briquettes. If you call to their factory and buy them loose you get them a bit cheaper as far as I remember.

They are back 37% roughly on all turf/peat due to the weather so that is why I am trying to buy some for parents now.

I think there is a bog in attymon in Galway which bord na mona used to run but dont any more. Some other crowd are running it now and selling sod turf by the ton to the best of my knowledge.
