    Hi Guys,

What should one expect to pay for a set of brake pads for a VW Touareg?
    2006 - 3 litre V6

    Many thanks!

The 3.0 V6 TDI has 4 piston calipers which means expensive brake pads. Genuine pads are crazy money, €176 + VAT last time I priced them. For OEM replacements you would be looking at around €120 + VAT.

Thanks lads! Is there any reason to opt for genuine parts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

No reason once you buy a quality brand as a replacement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

That is what I figured George.

    Thanks.

    €53.10 for front
    €32.53 for rear
    from micksgarage.com

€37 & €32 for ones with wear warning contact.

Cost for 4 in a belfast dealer was £585!

Micks if great value now if the just did the servicing. :D

I'm assuming wear warning is important as it plugs into the cars comp - just surprised that the one with it is cheaper than the one without!

Got a price here in Dundalk for €90 fitted for a set of fronts.

Holy Mackerel BatMan! Is it not as simple as getting a VW part-number or VIN for the car and asking a motor factor to price up Pagid, Ferodo or whatever (they're probably Pagid anyway)?

Might be worth checking VW dealer as I know they do some alternative VW service parts..Can't remember the exact name but something like green parts ..they are boxed in VW boxes and are a lot cheaper in price but are aimed at trade customers to compete with factors.

might be worth a try ?

If you want to put QH brake pads on your Touareg that is up to you but I wouldn't.....

*Note to self, don't step out in front of any Touregs*

The VW economy range is very limited and does not apply to the Touareg pads.

OP, I would recommend you stick to the OEM brands such as Brembo, Jurid, Pagid, ATE, TRW, Ferodo etc.

    fair enough.. worth a try

The VW economy range pads aren't great anyway in all honesty. We got a few sets in just to try them out but we find that the OEM pads actually fit and work better than the genuine economy range pads so we have gone back to using those instead.

Interesting to hear that about the economy pads. The VW delaer I was speaking to said they were flying out which I have no reason to disbelieve but interesting.

I have no doubt they are selling well, I just don't think they are any good :pac:

I beleive you both.. selling on the price and in the VW box

I'd recommend paying the extra 4 euro on Micksgarage for the Mintex pads.
I'd normally use Textar on these which would be a few euro more expensive again.

I will no longer fit expensive (relatively anyway) Mintex pads.

On a trip out west, I noticed a serious reduction in braking efficiency and a strange squeaking noise from the front brakes. I pulled into a friend's garage in Nenagh to discover that the friction material had separated from the metal, both parts of the pad retained in place by the springs. We replaced the Mintex pads with a set of pre-bedded-in Pagids I had in the boot and went on my merry way. The Mintex pads had replaced the nearly new Pagids.

We have also had a lot of problems with Mintex pads to the extent where we have stopped using them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

I normally would use Mintex on Toyota's and have never had any issue.
They are part of the same company as Pagid and Textar but they do seem the budget brand of the three.

I found a set of mintex to be a terrible fit recently for the back of a landcruiser.

Thanks lads for all the advice!

Out of Brembo, Jurid, Pagid, ATE, TRW, Ferodo are any easier to source within Ireland and would it be worthwhile to buy them and get a garage to fit them or find a garage that supplies those parts or will order them in.

I suppose the skeptic here in me would say how do I know what pads were fitted, is it easy to see the branding etc?

It is only the front so what a 45 min job?

The local VW garage is at €325 fitted for fronts.

If getting a good set from the names above what would one expect to pay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Certainly no more than €200 all in including a new wear sensor.

Go to motor factors and buy the pads then get an indy to Fit, that's crazy money! or else diy.

    Thanks George.

Is there a particular brand you'd recommend for the Touareg?
