How to motivate Daughter to "always" go to the Toilet?

    Hello Everyone,

for the last 2 or 3 months we have had a problem with our almost 3 year (2 years 9 months) old daughter.

She has been mostly dry since October 2011, and hasn't had a single dirty accident since then. She was almost completely dry during the day with only the odd accident every other week.

But for the last 2 or 3 months she seems to have taken a step back, and now regularly has accidents, sometimes 2 or 3 a day. She will not completely wet herself, but have a few wet spots in her pants and only go afterwards onto the toilet to finish it off.

The strange thing is that she will never have accidents when we go out, or when she is in the creche. It more or less only happens when we are home.

We have tried to encourage her to go regularly to the toilet with small rewards (Treats after she goes to Toilet, or a small reward from a reward box at the end of the day when she managed to stay dry the whole day etc.), but with no real results.

We also tried to penalize her, like not reading a good night story if she had more then one accident a day, but she doesn't seem to take it too serious (despite loving her bed time routine).

Anyone else experienced something similar, or has an idea on how to keep her motivated and dry?

    Thanks,
    DubDani

First off, this is a really bad punishment! Why would you deprive your daughter the joy of reading???

Anyways - is it possible she could have a bit of UTI?

We had thought about UTI, but don't think it is as she has no problems going to the Toilet in the Creche (3 days a week from 8.30 to 5.30). In the Creche she hasn't had a single accident since February or March.

    She's looking for attention.

Look for what's changed in her, yours or the family unit's routine. What's taking attention from her?

And bring back the reading. No point in associating something bad with it

I think with kids the punishment has to be immediate or it means nothing to them...they don't associate the connection. So if she wets herself in the afternoon...not having a story at bed time would seem to me too big a gap for the punishments to be effective.

Have you tried just going back to basics....bringing her to the toilet every so often so it clicks back in with her
