Looking for a new look: Rock kind of style?

Hi I'm looking to change my entire wardrobe as it's very... "mommy picked it out" kind of look. I've had the same stuff for 5 years so some of it DOES date back to then haha. I'm a guy by the way but am very open to crazy fashion.

I'm always been told a kind of rock look would suit me. Nothing emo or goth or anything but close enough. I know this is a very vague.

It's gotta be affordable enough too. I don't mind splashing out the big 100 for one item.

I'm looking for some good on-line stores really. Also I would love some kick-ass shoes.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you :)

What sort of band or person's clothes do you admire? It might help us visualise your look a bit. Also, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

In the mean time, Urban Outfitters, H&M and Zara are some of the best out there for men, IMO. Have a nose around their websites.

I'm sorting this out piece by piece.

I love these shoes for instance.Any idea what online would sell these or even what to search for. I've heard they're called newrock boots. I search this though and some of them are crazy high.

    I'm 24 :)

I know you said online stores, but if you want to see what they'd look like on, China Blue (in Dublin) has a pretty good selection of them if I recall correctly.

Edit: Actually they have an online store http://www.chinablueshoes.com/new-rock-mens.html

I'm sorry but those boots are awful - sorry, but they are totally goth / emo. Do you mean like indie rock or rock / metal? I would've figured someone in their late teens would wear them, not someone who's 24. People who wear those also wear full length black leather coats and have pony tails down to their ar*e! :-)

Most rock / metal fans would wear something more like Vans or DC runners, with tight jeans and some form of black t shirt / band t shirt. Also add hoodies and other kind of skater wear to that.

Tribe in Stephen's Green centre do a tonne of good skater / surfer wear.

If its a more "indie rock" look you want, then its pretty much the same except you could stick on a pair of converse and away you go. American Apparel for the tees and hoodies etc.

If its a "mod rock" look you want, then Pretty Green is your best bet. www.prettygreen.com.

If I were you I would avoid the whole Asha / emo look and go for something a little easier to wear.

Well I think if you like those shoes, get them. I wouldn't worry about what type of people usually wear them. If you feel like your current style isn't really your own and you know what else you'd rather wear, go for it. :) I don't know any shops where to get that kind of stuff though, sorry!

you could always try the Justin Theroux look. Its kind a rock kind of look but not scary old man if ya know what i mean haha If it can get Jennifer aniston to fall for him he must be onto something. I always think that a this kind of look looks great on a man cos its got that edge without looking scruffy.

But its important to wear whatever you feel happy to wear. Its best to let your own personality shine through your style.
    Happy shopping! :)

For a rock look for a guy i would pick out a white shirt,or even with light black striping,a black leather jacket and red doc martens with either jeans or black skinny jeans with a stud leather or pvc belt and a chain stud necklace and skull rings

If you're really looking for New Rocks, buy them in store, not online. Their sizings can be a little strange (I have two pairs, one size 5 that are huge on me, one size 7 that are too small and I normally wear a 5!). As someone pointed out, New Rocks are more of a 'metal' look than a rock look, unless you want the full goth or metal look, which you said you don't.

I love all the metal and goth look stuff, and wear plenty of it myself, but it's all about how you wear it. I sure as hell never look goth, but I still wear some extremely goth pieces, mixed with some more 'normal' clothes.

If you want the 'very' alternative rock look, try sites like tripp.com (their clothing is expensive though) and check out Fresh in Temple Bar (some of their stuff is customized and looks really nice actually) and Asha (although they're pretty emo!).

To be honest, if you're going for the sort of look that suits New Rocks, you'll be paying a LOT for your clothes. Alternative clothes are quite expensive as you only get them in select shops.

If you want some simple things like nice jeans and band t shirts, try out H&M. I absolutely love that place for band t shirts and dresses (obviously you won't be wearing a dress!), and they're very nicely priced.

Forever21 are quite nice for t shirts and jeans too.
