    Hi Folks,
If you look at this image of motte distribution in Northern Ireland, it splits them into three main types - general, scheduled, state care.

I have a fair idea about "state care" and "scheduled" definitions, but could somebody please clarify what exactly these things mean, in particular, the "general" one?

I presume "state care" means that the council maintain it and take care of it.
I presume "scheduled" means that is has been marked as a monument and so is protected etc.
What does "general" mean? Are theses on private land? Are they not technically scheduled too?

I'd love to start a boards.ie google earth map locating all of these sites, everything in Ireland in fact. Has this already been started/done? Would it take much to arrange?

I work for a software company but I have an active interest in archaeology.
For example, last year I went on a family holiday to Mayo and spent a day on Achill Island (love the place) and ended up hunting down an ancient burial site.
    Whatever floats your boat ;-)

    Cheers!
