I have some good heifers born last april making them roughly 17 months old now. They are good heifers and would be around 470/480 kg . They are CHx and Pedigree Part. Will i put them in calf next month and calve them down next july at 27 months or is this a bit young? Would I be better off to wait til next spring or are they fit?

Would leave them for another month
    july calving never liked
    calfs can be big
    too much milk at start
    prefer sept calfs

Any fear of stunting their growth, esp the pedigree heifers I wonder? Want them to reach their potential

i would wait another month or two. as said july calves dont really go that well and it will also give the heifers another bit of age. i would say they are plenty big enough just a bad time to be calving them down.

Would I have to be feeding the cows nuts during the winter to keep them in milk? We're always spring calving here so not too sure

I'd put them in calf. We calve down in July and no problems. Calves are hitting 8-9 months the following Feb and March which means we can wean them heading out to grass
