To make matters worse 2 business teachers have beed hired the year after me and are absorbing all the business hours???? Do i have a case for the union??? Thanks

It is too difficult for us to judge the merits of a case but if you are a member why not ring up tomorrow and discuss it with them? You seem to have nothing to lose in this case and you never know maybe you can fight it.

indeed ring the union but make sure all your facts are clear etc etc. e.g. what were the terms for the 4 years, are you teaching council reg for both subjects etc etc

The key here is how many hours you had last year and if the hours were reduced to prevent you getting a cid for a greater number of hours than 14.

Contact your union that's what they are for.

DEJA VUE!!! you have a case alright. it doesnt make any sense to hire 2 more teachers without filling your hours first. People here know my case and it is going to the rights commissioner. It is similar to yours. Yellowpack teachers is the way forward in education. They don't care about maintaning standards so i think people should stop saying that. Every target is now financial no matter what department you look at. Just look at health. Patient first is spin, students first is more spin. People have not copped on to the reality of not only education but the state of the country. Unions strength is being eroded each day which is not good for us.

On a positive note i hope it works out for you.

Not a whole lot to add to everyone else's advice about talking to the union about it.

Those teachers are obviously in their third year, so I'm assuming when you've been cut to 14 hours maths only that you had up to 22 hours last year (or at the very least 18 hours).

Q: Were any classes that were on your timetable given to those teachers for no reason. i.e. a class going that you had in second year going into third year or going from fifth year into sixth year, where they were actually taken off your timetable and given to someone else, rather than the case where you just had third years last year so now as they have finished the junior cycle you should have had them replaced with incoming first years but that was not the case.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you had your own classes and they've been taken from you mid cycle that I would imagine would strengthen your case.

Best of luck, teachers need to be so vigilant. Make sure you keep in contact with your area rep to keep your case moving.

When you meet them have copies of your contracts and timetables if you can so that they have the paperwork to make a clear cut case
