Can any TCD student log onto this, and where can I get the details?

    I am registered.

    Thanks, I read it.

Can I connect to it with my Android phone, it does not mention that operating system there?

I have configured an Open wireless network with the name TCDwifi, hopefully this will suffice once I am within range?

Will I be able to run the security check on Android?

Unless something has changed over the summer no!

Other universities allow students to access wifi services using the eduroam network, but unfortunately ISS blocks TCD staff and students from accessing it. You'll have to rely on your 3G unfortunately.

There was some talk of rolling out access sometime this year but ...

Hmmm, I found some threads here on boards saying it can be done by spoofing the mac address on a laptop to match that of your phone, and then registering first using the laptop.

Mac addresses can be spoofed using Backtrack Linux which I'm familiar with, but there's also a guide in one of the threads.

    Can anyone confirm?

MAC spoofing is done using the macchanger utility which can be installed on any distro. You don't need to go get backtrack. Think you can do it manually with the ip command too, never done it though

Thanks, I couldn't remember the name of the program, but have you used it on a laptop to give TCDwifi access to an Android device?

TCD staff can connect tablets and mobile devices according to the UT, but not students (not directly anyways)

Rolled out to Staff as a pilot project over the summer. They're monitoring the effect on the network before it's extended to the entire College community afaik.

As mentioned above, its been rolled out to staff. Its possible for students to get iphones on the network by mac spoofing but not android's

Do you know why the mac spoofing does not work with Androids?

You say that like it explains the reason why when using an account registered with a laptop spoofing a phones MAC address Android devices won't work, but Apple's will.

My bad, I thought you were saying it as if it was obviously the answer :)
