I've been asked to attend a two day induction with a company - not a full time job. Should I expect to receive payment for these days from them?

Any job I have worked in, they have paid me from day one. So you should get paid for induction. However I can imagine stingy companies using the downturn as an excuse not to start paying you til your doing the job.

    Yes, most always

But some companies won't pay you until you finish your first weeks work.

I did a days induction in a market research place in Dublin, MRBI TNS was the name I think. They do the political polls for Primetime and Sunday papers and other stuff

The reason they didn't pay for induction was lots would show up and never come back

They had a point, I attended induction and never came back either!! :D

Alas this was boom times and there were better jobs going

Did 4 weeks initial training previously for Amazon.co.uk when I started work with them. Was paid for all of it.

Training and induction are two totally different things.

My last job paid for induction if you stuck with the job after the induction was completed. Again it was a job where many people came for the induction then decided it wasn't for them and they were never to be seen.

Current job, which I started about 3 weeks ago, counted first day of paid employment from the day of induction so I am paid for the induction day.

As someone mentioned earlier companies may use their own discretion as to pay you or not and could blame this on the downturn!
