Favourite Lists

What are your favourite lists? Do you prefer personal ones, critics lists, celebrities lists, poll lists? And of the lists themselves, specific or general?

I generally don't enjoy particularly public polls. I'll give them a glance, but I'll dismiss them really. Of course, I'll always pick and choose what best supports whatever I'm saying at the time anyway!

I often like the quirky little lists - top 10 films not to be nominated for the best picture Oscar, top 10 films where the entire film is filmed in a house, top 5 performances by a masked actor. I think the general top 100 films are a bit too vague - extremely difficult and meaningless to compare Jurassic Park with The Shawshank Redemption.

Is this a list thread about lists? the mods are gonna love you :pac:

Depends really, I dont pay much attention to "best" lists because its completely subjective and depends who's voting, compare say the S&S to I dunno, an Empire list, they'll vary in huge amounts. Quirky ones are more fun, Cracked.com does some hilarious features on them at times.

I keep an eye on how I'm doing regards the IMDB Top 250, but it's a crap list. It's too modern (and increasingly so), and it's subject to every fad blockbuster that comes out (at least for a few months or a year, until the fanboys get bored of it and it falls back down the order or out of the list entirely).

I like to read people's top ten lists, particularly end of year ones, but anything that might link a few new films to some familiar ones for me is interesting.

I think my preferred lists actually stem from one of my personal favourite movies: the all-time top 5.

Most people's change on a daily basis but you'll rarely find one that people can't defend. Public polls definitely end up with the usual suspects that people often vote for when trying to guess the "right" top 10: films that everyone agrees have merit but that few of us would actually regard as a "favourite". (e.g. Shawshank, Godfather Part II, Schindler's List etc)

I've no interest in general top 10 etc lists but I love themed lists.

E.g. Ten best films adapted from Philip K Dick books or top ten creepiest film characters. It's a great way to discover new films and actors and there's usually a bit of interesting trivia accompanying them.

    I can waste hours...

I love the top 5s that the podcast Filmspotting does every week. It's an enjoyable show.
