Does anyone know if you can weld a flywheel shut. Have been told I need a new dual mass flywheel and a mate of mine said it can be welded shut

Anyone know if this is a no no?

I had the same problem a while back and I was advised not to get it done as the vibrations will increase along with noise and clutchwear.

Unless the welded fly-wheel is balanced, the welds will can serious vibrations which can wreck the transmission.

You can buy properly balanced single-piece / solid flywheels from good motor factors. With these a mild vibration is only noticeable at idle speeds.

You could weld it but it would be a disaster imo due to the balance issues as mentioned above.
You can get solid flywheels but these are also only a success in some types of cars.
What type of car have you?
