Which UK HD channels with Sky+ HD ?

I'm looking to upgrade from Sky+ to HD, but am not sure what UK HD channels I'll be getting as part of the Entertainment pack.

Sorry if this has been covered, but a forum search just left me more confused. Sky's site lists RTE2 HD as the only terrestrial channel that's included - no mention of BBC. But I thought I'd get BBCHD and BBC1 HD on the EPG?

    How about C4 HD?

I presume ITV1 HD is only available through Other Channels, and so can not be recorded?

if you upgrade to hd pack .ie pay €15 per month extra you will have discovery etc. (any channels you have now but in hd if there is a hd version)

without the sub , you have rte2hd, bbdhd, bbc1hd, nhkhd on the epg itvhd ch4hd can be added to other channels.

not sure if you can upgrade to hd without the sub though..

if you buy a hd box second hand its just a matter of connecting it up and ringing sky to pair your viewing card.

OK, that's kind of how I expected it to be, but Sky's site didn't mention BBCHD and BBC1HD. I plan on paying the €15, otherwise I won't be able to record, right?

I can see why ITV1HD is only on Other Channels, but why C4HD? We have regular C4 on the Irish EPG, so why not HD?

Are you paying the €15 for HD? You can still record any channel that you are subscribed to including the likes of RTE2 HD and BBC1 HD without paying anything extra for the HD.

Really? But how do I get those HD channels on my EPG unless I've paid the €15? Are they there by default on an HD box?

So the €15 just gets you HD versions of paid-extra-for channels? Like Discovery, NatGeo etc?

    What about Sky1 HD?

You will have the entertainment pack which contains a couple of free HD channels as mentioned. With a Sky+ HD box you will be able to record any and every channel in the entertainment pack including the free HD channels.

Some of the other channels in that pack are available in HD but I dont know myself so someone else may be able to give you the full list or a quick search of the Sky.com web site will give you a list of whats available on HD. If you pay the additional €15 for HD it means that you will be able to record and/or view any available HD channels subject of course to having a HD TV.

Personally I woulnt pay it. If you have a good quality pic on the telly and your dish is properly aligned and free from obstructions such as trees etc then I dont see any great difference between SD and HD - certainly not €15 a month difference anyhow. But thats just me.

Edit: In my previous post I meant "Sky+ HD box"

yea any channel you have now you will get, if you pay the extra €15 you get any channel that you get now and the hd version if available.

they are on the epg of hd boxes..

I have a hd box for more than 7 years and not paying hd sub.

as I said earlier bbchd bbc1hd and rte2hd are all recordable without a hd sub.

(obviously you wont get the other channels in hd unless ypu pay:D)

Thanks for the replies. So, just to confirm:

The €15 HD sub will merely give me access to (and ability to record) HD versions of channels I'm paying to get in the Entertainment pack?
Off the top of my head, I would say the only non-free channels I watch are Sky1, Discovery, NatGeo, NatGeoWild, Eden, AnimalPlanet, Dave, Eurosport, plus the kids channels.

So for the €15, I'd be able to watch/record the HD versions of those (where available), right?

I'm only recently an HD TV owner and am really impressed with the quality of the HD broadcasts on Freesat, but would like the flexibility that Sky+ offers, so am looking to upgrade to Sky+ HD.

I would definitely appreciate the HD versions of the channels I usually watch. So I'm considering paying the €15 and dropping the cost of Sky Movies as we don't watch it much. Probably be better value to rent the occasional BluRay instead.

Of course, by paying the €15, I also qualify for a free new HD from Sky.

Does no-one have an answer as to why C4HD is not available on the Irish EPG?

Yes. All channels in the pack in SD together with whatever channels that are available in HD.

Sorry, I have no idea which if any of those are available in HD.

    Correct.
Of course, by paying the €15, I also qualify for a free new HD from Sky.
I assume thats an offer or promotion by Sky.

It was mentioned in another thread here but cant recall the reason.

Checking Sky.com, all those I usually watch have an HD version except for Dave and most of the kids channels.

Yeah, although checking again, I notice that only qualifies for a regular HD box. I'd probably need the 1TB version for recording a lot of HD stuff, which would cost €49.

Thanks, but I don't think that applies to me as an existing Sky customer.
