Winter short game practice for a 9-5er

Just wondering if anybody has any ideas on this.

My club has a nice little practice area and I had great plans over the winter to bash away at the short game (putting/chipping and pitching)
Only problem is the area is not floodlit and it gets dark early in winter.

I know some ranges have short game areas but I dont fancy paying 5-10 quid a pop to use facilities.

Anyway around this...any interesting thoughts on practicing short game over winter?

For most 9 - 5 people winter spells the end of any mid-week practice, barring trips to the range. Unless you can get time at lunchtime? If not, you'll have to either stick to the range (which is generally pretty poor for short game practice) or wait until the weekend and do it then.
