fished out of rossaveel there on saturday, 10 of us on a boat with kevin mcgowan, sound lad. it was our best pollack fishing ever, and we've been sea fishing for the last 15 years. it was our first trip ever that we had to stop fishing early as we had so many pollack caught, if we had kept anymore we wouldn't have been able to keep them, so hard enough as it was to walk away from incredable fishing we would not kill fish just to throw them back, we had about 9 boxes of pollack caught by 2.30, and 80%of them were 5 pound and over, excellent fishing. we had plenty of mackeral in the morning for bait but they were small, perfect for a single hook on a flowing trace which seemed to work best for the pollack. the biggest on the day was just over 8 pound, thought we would get a few bigger because we were catching so many but all in all an excellent day, we were just off inishmore by the way.nice roll on the sea too

Have been out with Kevin many times, and IMO he's one of the best and hardest-working charter skippers in the country, never afraid to burn a bit more diesel to move to better fishing and keep the customers happy.
Fair play to ye for not killing fish ye weren't going to eat, 9 boxes is a lot of pollack anyway! Did you have a BBQ on board? Had barbecued mackerel a cpl months ago on a trip with Kevin and it was absolutely delicious - he's a former professional chef too so a dab hand with cooking fish.
