Have a little over 1000 for a laptop for college and games. Dont need / want an ultrabook just bang for the bucks. Can save more if badly needed.

Another thing i need is a 3 year warranty as i dont want it breaking through college.

http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/ and http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ seem to do cheap warranties so there might be a good place to recommend from.

    Thanks

    Configure your own laptop?

    Schenker XMG A502 w Core i7-3610QM, GT 650M (GDDR5), 8 GB RAM, UK keyboard, 2 yrs warranty. 960 Euro sans OS (3 yrs premium warranty + €105)

Also has a 2nd HDD bay if you want to add a solid state disk.

Wouldnt trust them to be honest. Id get a same spec laptop with 3 year warranty for the same price on saveonlaptops.

And which one would that be?

I see two Acer (a company I would trust much less when it comes to build quality) laptops with a Core i7-3610QM for ~700 Sterling, both have a GT 640M (and 1 yr warranty). The next better machine is a Lenovo with a GTX 660M for 1,100 quid.

You're looking for best bang for buck at around 1000 Euro? Go to computeruniverse.net (if you don't mind a German keyboard).

Yes, a fine machine, but the difference is in the details, VRAM being DDR3 and not GDDR5 and 1 yr warranty. We're still talking about best bang for the money, right? ;)

Since you posted a 17" laptop, have a look the XMG A702, same CPU and GPU (w GDDR5), 8 GB RAM, UK keyboard, full HD display (1920x1080), 2 yrs warranty, will set you back €943 (no OS, because you can buy it cheaper separately).

No doubt, that Sammy is decent allrounder with got pretty good reviews (like the XMG A502), but does it represent the "best bang for the buck" within your budget? I'd still prefer the Schenker, if I were to spend a grand on a laptop, better graphics and display, 2 yrs warranty and the 2nd HDD bay would swing the vote for me.
