Does anybody know what is happening with Mount Leinster?

I understand that there will be a frequency change after October 24th but have they released any details as to how long this will take? Or does anybody in the trade have an educated guess?

    Hours? Days? Or more?

Tune your Saorview equipment today, if you're given the option to suggest a channel (to speed up the search), look at channel 45.

On Oct 24th retune and you'll pickup the new signal on channel 23. You don't need to know the exact time, if you switch on the TV and the signal is gone just retune.

Probably won't happen on the 24th, same with Clermont Carn as well.

Hours. We've had a network frequency change already at Three Rock last July 10th, old frequency switched off at 0840 and was reported back on the new frequency after 1100 - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=79651820#post79651820.

We don't know the date the frequency change will take place yet - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=80240457&postcount=80

Friend is receiving analogue from Mt. Leinster now but any attempt at tuning Saorview fails.
I gather that he will be able to receive Saorview on his current set up after the frequency change.

Is this likely to be correct? And how long will be be without the Irish channels?

Mt. Leinster transmits RTE1 and 2 on VHF so they don't matter, can your friend receive TV3 and/or TG4 today on analog? If so then he has the correct aerial (UHF) for post-ASO Saorview reception.

The existing Mt. Leinster analog UHF channels are TV3 (26) and TG4 (23) so the channel currently occupied by TG4 is the one that will be used for Saorview after Oct 24th.

If your friend has a Group A aerial (which is optimized to receive chanels 21-37) then he may not be able to receive the temporary Saorview signal on channel 45 so what you're suggesting is very much possible. In that case he will have to wait until the analog channels are switched off to try the Saorview signal on ch. 23.

Can you clarify what channels he has today on analog? If he can receive TG4 today then he has the correct aerial so will just have to sit it out and wait for the analog channels to be switched off.

As the date for the frequency change hasn't been announced perhaps you or he should contact Saorview for an update regarding the frequency change at Mt Leinster.

He might have a frequency grouped aerial for the Mt. L. analogue UHF and/or it could be diplexed with an aerial for UK reception. Even without an aerial pointed at Wales, the Freeview channels from Wales on UHF ch. 45 won't be helping.

This situation isn't satisfactory. All that is required is the early shutdown of TG4 analogue which could easily happen overnight during France24. It would allow for digital to swop or for a period of dual running which might be more beneficial.

+1 The Big Bang approach won't suit a lot of people, especially older folk who could be a few days with no service if they're relying on a son or daughter who works away from home to sort them out as the switch-over day is a Wednesday.

NI are doing it the proper way, they're taking the BBC2 analog channel for the digital mux on Oct 10th so with only the loss of BBC2 to worry about, folk will have two weeks to switch to digital before Oct 24th when the rest of the analog service is shut down.

    From tv trade website

Mount Leinster, serving Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, South Wicklow, Tipperary, Waterford.
The SAORVIEW service will continue to be transmitted on its current temporary channel 45 after ASO.
From Fri 26th Oct the SAORVIEW service will be transmitted both on its current temporary channel 45 and on its new final channel 23.
On Wed Nov 14th  the SAORVIEW service will cease on channel 45, and from then will be available on channel 23 only.
These changes could not be made prior to ASO because channel 52 on Clermont Carn was in use for analogue RTE ONE, and channel 23 on Mt Leinster was in use for analogue TG4.
