    Hi all
I started car a lunch time I there was an awful scraping noise coming from engine on drivers side. It was louder outside the car not easy to hear inside. When opened the bonnet it seems to be coming from the belt area.
I turned on the air con on and it seemed to stop it but then it was coming and going. When I left work it seemed to get louder when revs increased.
Strange thing is it seemed to stop when car warmed up and I left if sit since home and started again awhile ago and no sound. Any ideas? Timing belt was done at 90k 124k on it now. Thinking water pump maybe but no leaks and temp is fine too. 2003 tdci is the car.

It is impossible to diagnose a noise over the internet unfortunately.

Water pump, alternator, tensioner pulley, power steering pump, air con compressor, take your pick it could be any of them.

    Cheers George
I'll see if it's still making noise in morning and go from there! Bad timing as usual off to OKtoberfest in 2 weeks last thing I need. Hopefully it's nothing major. Air compressors are expensive are they? Lad in work mentioned might be that when listened to it he knows bit about cars anyway loves taking engines apart!

Just an update in case anyone has same issue its the water pump anyway needs to be replaced. Been quoted 150 for pump and belt to be replaced on it. Nothing too serious at least thankfully!
