In the uk, they're 100hp! The 1.9 elite is 120

Depends on year of car, but generally the 16v is between 100 and 110 bhp

The 110s are ecoflex and I think they came out around 08?

Don't think they did an elite with this engine

1.7CDTi in the current model comes in either 110bhp or 125bhp. Elite could be either model.

Presume the OP is talking about the current model.

They don't do a 1.7 elite in the current model do they?

Yep, in both the Astra and Insignia.

Didn't think there was an Elite spec in the previous model!

Believe it or not, but the 110bhp is a better drive than the 125bhp. The 125bhp is very laggy.

Was it a UK thing? Don't remember an Elite in the old Astra, mind you I've fcuk all experience with those.

No, it was an Opel. Guy who owned it only used keep his cars for a year or less. sold him a Prius, and a rav4, and a used RX300 within a really short period.

I always thought the Design was the highest spec old shape. Is the 1.7 still the Isuzu sourced unit or GM's own unit?

    Isuzu

Isuzu....blast from the past! That old 1.7 daysil was in the Geminis back in the early nineties, great engine by all accounts

Current Model Astra Elite 1.7CDTi 16v is only available in 125ps. Unless they've changed it recently (like with the Insigina 2.0CDTi engines) it is pretty awful to drive. I'd definately try to find the extra €1,500 to go to the 165ps 2.0 version.

Old model Astra seemed to be Life, Club, Exclusive, SRi, SXi and Design according to some old info I have here.

What I meant was who makes it is it a fiat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The 1.7 is based on the isuzu engine. I not sure if Isuzu actually build them any more though.

I wouldn't be put off by the fact of a car having a 'fiat engine'

Thanks Colm, just we where looking at the corsa 1.3 and my mechanic was saying stay away because of the fiat engine he thinks their trouble so any reason you would argue otherwise,
    cheers

The fiat 1.3 isn't all out as good as the 1.7 but there absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have one with 93k miles and no fault. No dpf one less thing to go wrong. The only thing that goes wrong with them is egr valve and alternator sometimes has to be refurbed now these problems are hadly a big deal. Fiat Opel cross engines are normally very good I don't know what your mechanic was going on about tbh. They are good engines going by the many mechanics I asked some Opel mechanics some not.

    1.3 CDTi - Fiat Multi-jet engine
    1.7 CDTi - GM/Isuzu engine
    1.9 CDTi - Fiat Multi-jet engine

While the 1.7 is an old Isuzu block GM modified it over the years with common rail injectors, etc. They are not fault free either.

No modern diesel seems to be fault free. You really have to go back to early 2000s or before the reliable stuff

We had a 1.9cdti vectra 2005 with fiat engine and it was a really good great power and reliability. I have a 1.3 Astra with the fiat engine as I said it is reliable not very powerful but not slow. And of course the 1.7 is a great engine.Opel really have 3 good diesel engines there. They all had there own small problems but in general great engines. Just beware that from 2009 newer model opels mostly had dpf so that will effect them but then all diesels have them now unfortunately.
