I know this had proabably been asked before but can anyone recommend a good careers guidance counsellor/ consultant in the Dublin area. I'm looking for somebody who can offer guidance on alternative careers, aptitude tests, cv preparation, that kind of thing. I don't want to waste time or money going to a spoofer.

Visit ETC Consult. You can find them on Google. They offer all of the services you mention. Used them myself and found them very professional.

Are they a €100 an hour setup?

That figure wouldn't be far off. They offer packages depending on your requirements, but very useful I thought.

Cripes that is expensive, they would need to be very good at that rate. I'm guessing most people would book for the hour, maybe two at the most. But if they are good then I guess they are worth the money.

Private counsellor prices have come down to around 50-60 euro an hour during the recession (demand a discount for being unemployed/student etc.). But if someone gets full psychometric/personality testing etc., it can go into a few hours. But when it's done properly, it can be very useful to someone with no notion of what they would be good at. List of private accredited counsellors is available on Institute Guidance Counsellors' website (www.igc.ie). Lot of cowboy 'Career Coaches' out there that I wouldn't go near.
