bought 2 bull dairy calves in the spring to suck 2 cows that had lost their calves.

The seller recently mentioned he thought 1 of them might be wanted by the crowd who dna test the calves and buy the calf based on the outcome of the test.

Can anyone tell me how/who I find out more?
The seller has had success in this before the breeding is there.
Be a very nice bonus if they are wanted.

Talked to dovea who had requested the samples earlier in the year but they are not doing any more buying this year and they are gone too old.

Anyone think it would be worth a punt genotypeing ourselves and seeing if worth anything as stock bulls? Or is the country full of potential dairy stock bulls
Vet will be here on fri so just making sure we don't squeeze them and discover afterwards we cocked up:D

If they were looking at him as a potential AI bull then he will have a good chance of having an excellent EBI. If you test him and he turns out average he can be squeezed then. If it turns out he has a good EBI then he will be worth a good few bob as a stock bull imo

Genotyping and ICBF data has allowed the AI companies to move away from complete pedrigree AI. They are now able to target high EBI bulls and get them genotyped. If they prove suitable they can then move to full testing.

If you genotype this calf and he proves to have good potential it is well possible that a dairy farmer may well consider him as a potential sire. However he will not be a complete crock of gold but he may well be worth more than a fresian bullock. If you do get him genotyped let us know the cost and the results it may be intresting.
