I saw some lads on the forum talking about the best marts for selling in and buying down south for weanlings. Any thoughts on marts up in the north west? Thanks

I'm not buying weanlings. I'm a weanling producer based on the border between Sligo and North Leitrim

Down south lads were talking about Ennis and Gort being good for weanlings

Depending on what you produce - if you have weinlings for export, Ballymote can be a good spot. If you have lighter weinlings then Manorhamilton, Dowra or Drumshambo could be worth a punt. Dowra has some great special sales at this time of year with buyers from across teh country in attendance.

I mostly go to Ballymote with mine. From comparing prices I get to what is listed on the Farming Indo and The Journal in other marts it seems to be as good as any. As was said earlier Balla is a good mart for weinlings and Dowra can be good as well.

Elphin for heavier forward store type cattle is the best from what I've been told.

the marts in the north west which i would pick based on good selection of animals would be Dowra elphin and mohil . you will find a "rough diamond"

It was a good evening a few hundred farmers turned up for it. The live exhibition by most of the breeds was very good. Report in this weeks journal.

    Depends what your selling
Black weanlings don't do better in dowra than Carrigallen

I've found Carrigallen good for Red Lm's, yellow/white Ch's, & a good blue (depending on the time), other colors take a hit. Also you'd want bull 300-350kg for optimum price, heifers don't seam as fussy

Yeah find carrigallen good for charlaois weanlings alright. Used tp use granard but find carrigallen better for heifers. Usually are bulls would be at least 400kg and up and generally cant complain about the prices
