Bad Back - End of Cycling?

    Hi,

I have a herniated disc L4 L5 which seems to have put an end to my cycling unfortunately. Im only 35 and cycling was pretty much the only sport^hobby that was of any interest to me so it kills me a bit to give it up. First had problems about a year ago, went to the back specialist, had mri-s etc and he advised i stopped cycling forever and do rehabilitation. I have tried to go for a spin since and it does seem to set it off again - its literally where the base of the spine bends.

Just wondering if anyone has had experience of this_? also would a fixie with more upright position be of any use to me? - i have been using a static bike which seems ok- but has nothing to do with the reason why i started cycling in the first place....:(

Could a recumbent be a solution while you try for rehabilitation? Just a thought, but the position on the bike would be completely different.
