    Hi all,

I have 2 Sky+ boxes (and 1 HD), 1 of the Sky+ boxes acts up now and again,so thinking of replacing them. Will Sky do this for free? Checked the Sky site but that's like trying to circumnavigate the moon!!:)

    Cheers.

had a similar issue with my HD box, i called them up and explained the issues etc and they told me i'd have to buy a new one, so i threatened to cancel, she put me through to the cancellations department and they were letting me cancel right up until the last minute then they suddenly "changed their minds" and sent out a technician with a new HD box, free of charge

i'd try the same, they won't want to lose a customer

Guy on adverts selling brand new 1tb boxes for €100

    http://www.adverts.ie/shops/eireview/

Going direct to Sky can be expensive,it's usually cheaper to source the boxes yourself & do a self install.

Doesnt matter where you buy the boxes. Sky dont insist on buying from them and they will pair the cards for you regardless of where you get the boxes.

As stated above Adverts is a good place to look.

I would say ring Sky and play hard ball. The best deals are had AFTER you have left but that's up to you on how far you are willing to push it.

Mention box not working, Saorview and FreeSat are free and allow recording, youre paying too much, thinking of going to UPC, multiroom too expensive, lost your job, can't pay the mortgage, etc etc.

Let us know how you get on

One more quick question. I have a HD sub already does that mean all boxes get HD or is it €15 per box? Sorry for the brain picking..

    Once again Thanks..

Once you have the HD sub on one box,you get it on all HD boxes you might be using for multiroom. ie. €15 PM for the whole house.

Still waiting-due in Friday. Quick possibly dumb question... 1TB versus 2TB box any difference (apart from storage!:D)

    Cheers.

A large portion of the smaller boxes is reserved for "anytime" or "on demand" automatic recordings meaning a large portion of 500GB drives are not available to the user for recording.

A big benefit of larger drives is that you don't run out of space at an inconvenient time. It's nearly impossible to transfer over recordings to a new drive easily so most people reach the limit and just have to delete or lose every recording by getting a larger drive.

It's good to know that hopefully you won't be stuck in 2 or 3 years with a difficult decision to make. I normally try to record the SD version of shows rather than the HD version in order to save space.

The boxes are normally set to "automatic delete" meaning when they are full they start automatically deleting the oldest stuff without asking. This is normally your most preciously saved shows.

Yes but in fairness you can override that behaviour.

How would that help if you dont mind me asking?

You can protect recordings that you don't want auto-deleted. In fact, you can turn off auto-delete altogether and delete manually.

But, as referred to above, what happens when the disk is full and you have other programmes to record? Say you're not at home to see any on-screen warnings will the box refuse to record or auto delete previous recordings?

Sorry, can't answer that one. I've never let it get to that stage. In fact, I'm considering fitting a larger hard drive in my own box!
