    Hi All,
Can someone confirm that Strabane will not receive Pick TV, Dave, Sky News, 5usa, Quest etc after DSO.
    Looking here: http://www.ukfree.tv/shutdowndetail.php?tx=IH393947

It seems it will only get BBCA, BBCB, and D3&4.

Also wondering why it says Aeriel group E from 2013 when it uses group B now.

Yes, it will only have three muxes, usually only the main transmitters get all six muxes.

ukfree.tv is not an official website, it's run by an enthusiast, so don't take what it says as gospel.
Having said that most of the stuff on there is good.

    Indeed.

Strabane is not changing in 2013, a Group B aerial will do pre-ASO, Oct 10th, Oct 24th and into 2014, described as the 'Final Situation'.

I got the postcode for Strabane district council and put into the postcode checker, link below.

Scroll down to the 'Strabane' header and note that the post-DSO channels (in the grey colums) aren't changing, they are 45/42/39, all Group B.

just browsing this evening in the Finn Valley Area in Co Donegal - a few new UK channels have appeared presumably on the Strabane Transmitter - Horror , True Entertainment, Quest / (Quest+1), Blaze, Drama, 5Star ......all present on channel 23.

I'm seeing a bit of breakup now and again - may be just a one-off slightly stronger irregular signal due to the hot weather

Divis has that mux (SDN) on channel 23, as does Darvel in SW Scotland.

It's certainly not coming from Strabane.

Certain areas in the Finn Valley can get pick up the signal from Limavady so thats probably what you're getting. Up round Lismulladuff and Cronalaghy are good examples.

based on the channel number and channels after further research I think it was from Brougher Mountain in Tyrone.
due to that exceptionally hot humid evening giving the unique atmospheric conditions allowing the signal seemed to travel further - (there is a term for the phenomenon which escapes me at the moment ).....
@Thurston wondering could it be as far away as Divis ? ......

Brougher Mt transmits the commercial muxes on UHF 21,24,27.
UHF 23,26,29 are the Divis commercial muxes.

    Inversion Effect, Tropospheric Ducting

It isn't Brougher or Limavady, & none of the smaller NI transmitters carry the com. muxes.

You're probably about 80 miles from Divis? I'm something like 135 miles from the Darvel transmitter I mentioned above, & can get a signal under the right conditions.

He has it exactly the wrong way round, the inversion is warm air over cold. (And the 'ability to ignore reflected digital signals' has nothing to do with co-channel interference.)

OK Divis it seems to be then - am about 95 to 100 miles as the crow flies.

And i guess this was just a rare occurence - no point in me thinking about stronger aerials or amplifiers ? :)

There are a few small areas in Donegal which according to the Divis coverage map can get their signals.

I'd say you're a bit closer to Divis than that, you'd probably have to be out on the coast to be 100 miles away.

I'd only bother with aerials etc. if you're up for a bit of experimenting, with no guarantee of a successful outcome. Don't know about getting reliable Divis, but you could also try Brougher & Limavady, although the latter is at the other end of the TV band to the others, so the group A aerial that would be best for Divis & Brougher wouldn't be any use.
