    Heres the official spec anyway...

    http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/09/canon-eos-6d-official-specs/

The announcement should be later today. Apprently Adorama had it up on their site for preorder at $2099 (since been taken down) so Id imagine this will come in at just under the 2K mark in euros, seeing as US prices are always a bit better.

I as dead set on the 5D mkIII for January or February next year but this has well and truly thrown a spanner in the works (not complaining though). Slightly less megapixels which isnt really going to make a huge difference to me and not quite as good auto focus. I suppose I'll hold off for a few reviews. I wouldnt mind if the AF wasnt as good as the 5D mkIII, which by all accounts is amazing, so long as its better then the mkII Ill be happy.

So whats the general consensus? Impressed? Not so much?

i take it this is supposed to compete with nikon's recently released D600 ?

personally, i'd probably go the extra mile for a 5D mark III

At launch price you're right, probably safe to say it'll be in or around the 2k mark at launch and will stay there for a few months. The mkIII can be found for €2700 now which is still a fair saving but possibly not enough to justify going a model down. I'll be holding off to see some comparitive shots anyway. It has the same Digic 5+ processor as the mkIII and with a slighly smaller sensor so has the potential to have every bit as good ISO performance. I guess we'll see shortly anyway.

Ah fudge, I've just bought a 5D mkii recently...
Looks rather good, obviously in direct competition with the new Nikon in the higher end consumer camera range.

I wouldnt imagine there'll be a huge improvement in performance over the mkII. Hopefully better AF and slightly improved ISO performance (not that the mkII was bad in this regard). I suppose its a difficult slot in the market as if its too good it would take away potential mkIII buyers. The mkII still has a few spec advantages so I wouldnt loose too much sleep over it if I were you, you still have a top notch camera.

True enough, Im not that put out really. Im rather happy with my 5d, there's not a whole pile more I want from a camera really that isn't featured on it.

Looks awesome. It would be great upgrade to my 5D.

It's back up on Adorama again at $2099 but marked as out of stock. Been waiting a while to upgrade my 50D and think I'll take the plunge if the reviews are generally positive. Let's hope Santa has room in his sack

I've been wanting a full frame upgrade from my 60D for a while, I was thinking of going for a 5D mk II but this is looking very appealing now. Better start saving..

My OH and I were considering getting a second body after we sold our trusty old 350D when we upgraded to a 7D. The 5D mkIII seems a good choice due to its ergonomic similarities to the 7D. The 6D seems laid out much more like a 60D.

It's an interesting decision by Canon to have these two very different button layouts. They did it with the 60D and 600D because of the articulated screen, but carried it over to the 6D.

I guess it shows their target audience.

Just seen Berminghams have this on preorder for 2300. Jaysus.

2099 dollars by todays exchange rate is 1606. Practically 600 euro difference. Even allowing for import duty thats a no brainer.

I only recently got the mk3 and now this comes out!! I only upgraded for the full frame and iso capabilities which is the 6d in a nutshell. I broke the bank for the mk3, now im considering selling on the mk3 to "downgrade" the the 6d

You'll be sorry if you do. 6D only has 11 AF points. I own a mkIII myself, and I can honestly say that the 61 point AF system on it has changed the way I photograph (for the better). I can pretty much always get the composition I want, at any aperture I want (even f/1.2) because I can essentially focus on any point in the viewfinder.

I was anxiously waiting to see the spec of this camera. Hoping that it would actually be affordable and maybe something I could trade in my 5DmkII backup for, but the 6D is a pretty poor effort from Canon in my opinion. It's Nikon equivalent seems like a much better camera for the price, which will hurt sales of this big time.

It amazes me how Canon can get it so right with the 5DmkIII, yet completely gimp this so called 'affordable' full frame camera so badly. Apparently it has a max sync speed of 1/180th sec, which just seems like a bizarre feature to cut back on in this day and age, and by such a small amount

It reeks of being deliberately under spec'd, in the hope that consumers will be put off by its short comings and buy up a level (the 5DmkIII).

Sure, they'll sell a few to gadget geeks who want the GPS and WIFI features even though they don't need them (what photographer does really?), but those features may as well be non-existent to someone like me.

As much as I love my mkIII, I don't really use any of the bells and whistles it has. Someone needs to make a bare bones full frame DSLR. Remove all the ****e like video, HDR etc. and just give me good AF, good ISO and a good sensor. Whichever of the big manufacturers does this first will have a license to print money. I wouldn't put it past someone like Fuji to be the first to have the cop on at this stage.

I think it really boils down to what type of photographer you are. Any kind of of photojournalist type shooter including wedding shooters would probably benefit from the mkIII differences. Im increasingly finding myself shooting posed/staged shots, typically where im in control of the lights but sometimes just using ambient lighting. I can honestly say the additional features of the mkIII wouldn't be of any benefit to how I personally shoot, if anything the 6D's features such as the wifi control would give me the upper hand. I think its fair to summarize that it just depends on what type of photographer you are. For my needs this is an amazing camera thar wouyldnt ioffer any real benefit over the mkIII for what I need from a camera body.

I chose the mk3 for video so the auto focus system doesn't really make a big difference as I do be pulling focus manually. So when you take this into account what really is the difference between the two? If the 6d is on par with the mk3 in terms of moire and aliasing then I well downgrade for sure.

So is anyone actually using a 6d at the moment? If so how are you finding it :-)

Price seems to have dropped a bit. 1600 euro approx from Ian Kerr.

I'm also taking a serious look at this camera, and FWIW I think the WiFi feature is awesome.
