check the source of the site. if it looks something like this you're fine.
<html>

<p>we hacked jooo</p>
</html>
would this have the potential to damage your computer?

most definitely yes it has the *potential*

all depends on the security you have on your browser and system. For example, the hacker could have re-written the html of the site to include a redirect that downloads malware from an external site, or inlcuded a javascript that executes before the page renders or even dropped some script onto the server that sucks up all your browsing history/session info nad cookies/passwords etc while you look at the page.

going back to look at the website again is not necessarily the best idea as
1. you might not see the evilness in tehpage source (it could be part of an altered stylesheet or a server side script)
2. if you were lucky not to be hit the first time, why risk getting hit by going back?

consider changing passwords and think about what other websites you had open at the time. If htey had logings then your session info could have been read.

Run a full anti-malware / virus scan on your PC (its paranoid but you asked about potential). best to run this in safemode if you are using windows.

Anyone else visiting the site, please be sure to protect your system appropriately. Firefox with noscript, a VM Guest etc.
