Mounting network drive

Howdy, new mac user so im clueless. I have mounted a network drive at home through finder and it shows up under "shared" and logs in itself and all the rest. Problem is the speed, it takes a few seconds to load up the folders(theres only 7) and then streaming is pretty bad speed wise and when you try skip ahead it just…

Howdy, new mac user so im clueless. I have mounted a network drive at home through finder and it shows up under "shared" and logs in itself and all the rest. Problem is the speed, it takes a few seconds to load up the folders(theres only 7) and then streaming is pretty bad speed wise and when you try skip ahead it just lags for a while. Under windows and indeed parallels it runs normally and very fast its just the mac thats slow connecting and loading info. Any ideas how to make it fast like windows?
