I've the S3 since launch and never updated firmware, since I rooted it and didn't want to loose the root and have to redo everything again. I've used Chain Fire method from xda to root.

I know have a permanent icon reminding me to update the software on my phone, but I'm unsure if I can do this OTA via wifi or connect to kies??

If I do a nandroid backup, and then update OTA will I lose my root and all my settings etc?

I've never updated after rooting a phone for this very reason but I don't want to miss out on any improvements to the phone as I love the S3.

Heres a screen shot of device details:

update via kies is best to ensure you are up to date. it will update you to the latest version.
    you wont lose any settings.

you will have to root again. it takes 2 minutes.
i use odin and cf root to root the phone.

i recommend updating. battery life was improved, also some nice little features etc were added such as controlling brightness from your notification pulldown etc.. very handy stuff

Could I trouble ye to link me to the correct place on xda to download the update? I get easily confused on that site.
