Does an insert stove need a fireback?

Looking to fit an insert/inset stove in my house.

Current fireplace is for a gas fire and has no fireback, just cavity bricks.

Can anyone advise do I need to have a fireback fitted prior to getting the stove fitted or will I get away with just removing the current grate and just getting the stove fitted with no fireback?

    Cheers

Some insert stoves can be fitted with or without firebacks
I know the Stanley cara is fitted without
Look at different makes and check out their installation instructions
