    Hi,

I am considering organising a cycling challenge ie Galway to Malin Head to Dublin to Mizen Head - to Galway all in four days. As you can guess not for the casual cyclist. June 2013 in the most likely period as the long day light hours are an essential necessity. If you are interested or have a comment or two please add a thread.

    regards

Depends on what you are trying to achieve . What your primary purpose ,
    To raise money?
To get a large number of participants ?
    To prove endurance ?

Route seems arbitrary and starting in the wrong place for wind and potential numbers.

    IMHO

Finishing in Galway is a great idea for the Dubs, we'd have to stay over at the end to "celebrate" finishing. Like the look of this, will watch with interest.

    Hi,

I chose Galway as that is where i live. why not start and finish at my front door. I am hoping to do this with about 10 or so others as a challenge for 2013. The plan is to do it as cheap as possible and not as a charity ride. I did my first full Ironman this year and this is the challenge for 2013. It is not a commercial adventure just a bike ride for four days.

    Have you any rough route?

What kinda distance? Looking for hills or going around them?

    Fair enough so,

maybe pick howth as its on the extremity of the east coast and a bit away from city centre traffic.

It's traditional for the mizen to malin riders to do south to north to make best use of the prevailing winds in Ireland ,

Interesting idea but as you are aiming to do in 4 days I imagine you might come up with a boring enough route if you take the most direct route which still equates to approx 300+ km's each day.

I've been entertaining a similar idea but utilizing some more of the Irish coast as a challenge for myself which would go around the coast as much as possible and taking in some climbs as well in the mainland. I'd suggest putting up a route, it can be a rough draft and once you have the interested parties work together to finalize details.

Some details on support, luggage transfer and what type of accommodation as well as a rough price might help generate more interest.

As a guide I paid 500 for a 5 night trip from Malin to Mizen covering accommodation, food, support and transfers from Galway last year.

I like the idea of going around the coast, I have thought of that myself but to do it in stages over a few months.
I would be interested in either.

You need to look at the Race Around Ireland that will give you a challenge

Mmm as part of my random thoughts as to 2013 i had two items under consideration ...

    i) Dublin - Clifden - Dublin ... over the course of four days. I live in Dublin, my folks live in Athlone and i've accomodation available to me in Clifden. This wouldn't be the most attractive of cycle routes, but a good starter to getting multiple days on the road, and also making use of facilities easily available to me.

ii) Malin to Mizen ... probably over four days. No great thought put into this one as yet.

My initial plan is to do both solo and with no great fan-fare (not for charity etc). Rather than trying to get people on-board and co-ordinate dates etc, it would be simpler (!) to say this is what i'm doing and then if one/two friends want to join in for part of the journeys then great, but on my terms and at my speeds etc.

However you've gone and trumped all that ... interested in hearing more about your 'challenge' but you're getting into really really long days in the saddle with your plans. Whereas my hope with the M2M spin would be to take in some of the more scenic aspects of our western coast and enjoy the ride rather than purely hammer-time.

I'll be following this thread with interest to see what develops. While I like the idea, I don't know if i would enjoy 4 days @ 300km each day. Certainly wouldn't be able for it at the moment, but then again, nothing like a challenge to set a serious training goal. Best of luck with it.

It is ambitious - fair play. One 300 on one day would tax almost everyone on here. Only a handful would complete two 300's in successive days. IMO four in four days would be more difficult than the RAI where each rider has a support team. Maybe start with a 300, then a couple of 200 days followed by a rest day. Or even some of the 10 to join at different stages. But 10 guys without ultra-cycling background doing 4 x 300 would be mega. Or maybe you meant drive it in a 4 x 4. But even that would take three days...
