Hey guys looking at doing a media room in the next few months so trying to get an idea of what I need. Amp wise I figure up to €500 I was looking at the sony STR-DH820. I have no idea on speakers or a sub so really need advice there on what to get also wiring.An amp with network connectivity would be great as alot of my music is alac and my movies are mkvs on a NAS but I couldn't see anything around and dont want to compromise sound quality if at all possible.

Im very interested in your opinions and this should be a fun little project, thanks.

The sony STR-DH820 is not network capable. There are some excellent amps with network connectivity well within your budget:

No amp will play video over a network, you would need a media box hooked up, but they will all play high bitrate audio directly from your NAS. The Onkyo can play ALAC directly with the latest firmware update, but I'm not sure about the Yamaha or Pioneer.
Speakers and sub wise, there is a HUGE range, so it's very much budget dependant.
Wiring, any high strand count speaker cable will do, don't spend on big name cable, it makes NO difference (despite what the "audiophiles" may tell you), read this http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055814999
