the gears aren't engaging the teeth on the piston correctly, or else it could be just wear and tear, how old is it? and do you use lipo's?

no checked that and its not the gears, not sure i bought it about 1 year ago sec hand, i did upgrade motor and a few other bits and peaces, i just ordered ARMY FORCE Full Steel 14 Teeth Piston which hopefully fix the problem. also when i bought it, it was firing 378fps someone upgraded the spring in it.

what else did you upgrade? the higher spring could have caused it but I'd say it has just worn down. on a side note, did you buy the M4 here? 378fps is just a stupid output to have here.

yea i did i bought it off boards.ie and the fella bought it in dublin rang the store and they said it was defo 300fps i found out it was way over when i brought it to a skirmish i was sickened, i upgraded motor to high speed, 9.6v 4000mah battery, new cylinder, piston head, barrel, hop-up, new bearing set, spring guide. it could be wear and tear ave new one ordered hopefully be ok then.

Looks like wear and tear to me. You've had it one year, bought second hand, pulling stronger spring for a while, polymer piston - all points to wear.

To reduce piston wear you can adjust the AOE (angle of engagement) which helps spread the load more evenly along the piston rack. You generally would use sorbothene attached onto the cylinder head to bring the piston back so that the sector gear engages the piston at a less stressful angle.

You can then also angle the teeth of the pick up & 3rd tooth, and remove the 2nd tooth completely for a cleaner pick up.

But it all depends on what the angle of engagement is like in your gearbox.

Realistically it's just a case of replacing the piston though :)
