MUDGUARD ADVICE

Will be doing some winter commuting and have got the old Raleigh Airlite 100 out the shed, as I want to keep my best bike nice, clean and smelling of roses!!!

Also still just about winning the fight to keep the best bike in the kitchen and a divorce would be on the cards if I left it there muddy dripping and not smelling of roses.

Anyway I am looking for some mud guards. Not bothered about appearance, just something cheap that works.

    Thanks

Easiest solution is to drop into your local bike shop and they'll sort you out. More than likely fit them aswell.
A cheap set would be about €15

SKS Raceblades. They're quality things. Cheap mudguards are frustrating and are generally crap

A quick google suggests that the Airlite 100 has clearance and eyelets for full mudguards (e.g. SKS Chromoplastic). If you can fit them they're much better than clip-ons.

Have race blades on one bike and they're fine, have the chromoplastics on the new one and after a few wet days I'd agree with lumen, they're much better. Keep your feet and legs a lot drier. And your bike cleaner

The raceblades are a decent solution for bikes without mudguard eyelets. The Raleigh does. Put on proper full length ones, fit and forget.

Okay I think I'll go for the SKS Chromoplastic.
On chainreaction it gives various sizes.

    Would I need to go for the - Narrow 700c - 35mm

I'd go with narrow. The Chromoplastics are near indestructible (I broke one though and SKS replaced it free of charge as a goodwill gesture) and offer excellent coverage (meaning your shoes will only be getting wet from the rain falling out of the sky)
