New wheelset upgrade suggestions?

Hi guys, thinking about upgrading my wheelset - currently riding Mavic Ksyrium Elites on a Focus Izalco Pro 1.0. I don't race but would ride a substantial amount, mainly climbing and rolling terrain, and just want a really good wheelset to match the quality of frame. Can get a pretty good deal on a set of Dura Ace WH 7900 C24 CL at the minute; anyone have any experience of these wheels or other suggestions at that price point (c. 850-1000e)? I'm pretty much ruling out carbon clinchers because frankly I don't need them, thanks!

@ Dubba That's the good deal I was talking about! There are a few reviews on the net for them but nothing substantial. For that money I think they'd be hard to beat though. I like the K-Elites and would def hold onto them for the winter months also giving the Sl's some consideration too. Any other suggestions or feedback on the c24's?

The c24's are supposed to be very good wheels. They're also very light but my personal preference would be deep section cosmic's as they're strong and have an aluminium braking surface, so no need to change brake pads when switching wheels. Here for €750 or around €500 second hand if you can find them:

Cheers Dubba, will look a little more into the cosmic so! Anyone else have any other suggestions before I tie this up?

I believe the same technology as the DAs
    http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/shimano-ultegra-racing-cycle-wheelset-28--700-c-wh-6700-g/aid:516323
A little heavier, but much lighter on the wallet!

If you're going for discounted Shimano wheels make sure you can find replacement spokes. I bought a pair of Ultegra's 2 years ago and had to wait 4 months this summer for replacement spokes to be stocked in the usual outlets.

That's a pretty nasty waiting time - I seem to remember someone posting a link to a website that sells replacement Shimano spokes, it could have even been bike-discount.de. I would have thought sourcing replacement Shimano wheel bits would be a piece of cake compared to some of the more exotic offerings you see people riding.

The Ultegra wheels with center pull spokes were popular so I was surprised too.I looked in the usual places (and some unusual places too), they were all out of stock and the places that reported 1 or 2 pieces in stock turned out to be out of stock to.

Well if you dura ace CL's are anything like mine then you won't need replacement spokes, or replacement anythings because mine have been absolutely faultless. All I've done is wipe them clean every so often over the last 2 years and they're still as true and clean up as well as the day they came out of the shop. Awesome wheels and properly light too

    Hi Smig1985

I would be interested in the Mavic Ksyrium Elites if you are selling them?

    Ciaran

I saw the thread and was thinking the same thing as Ciaran :)

Hi dotzciaran, I don't think I will be selling them anytime soon tbh :( They're a great wheelset and judging by what other riders have told me there's very little difference between them and other high-end aluminium clinchers, except maybe weight. When I do upgrade the new wheels will be deep-carbon for sure (the elites are not in any way aero), but I'll still be holding onto them for hillier outings. You won't regret picking up a set, they're a steal for the money too.
