    Hi All

... The wife thinking of tackling the Ring of Kerry in 2013. I am keen to accommpany her accordingly and would be a great 'Mrs & Mrs' day out. I would encourage her to join me in local club and start preparing as from Feb 2013 or so.

I would like to get her a bike BUT:
    1. We used her BIke to Work allowance already ...'nuff said!! wink wink nod nod !!!
    2. I am not sure she would take to cycling and so do not want to 'spend big'...this migh be a flash in the pan!!
    3. Was hoping to pick up a clean/good 2nd hand for her on Adverts / Done Deal.

SO Boardsies.... will you keep an eye out for me ??? Hope to spend €300+/- on same..what u think??

Also... any advice would be appreciated!!!

Of course my biggest worry is... that she be faster than me and will have to 'wait' for me at Kenmare!!! Oh the embarrassment!!!

    Sikky

My advice would be that those two things are not unrelated. A sh1t bike is generally sh1t to ride, and a great bike is generally great to ride. If you gave me a sub 300 quid bike and told me ride it all day for 160k, at the end of the day I'd probably tell you to shove this cycling malarkey up your swiss roll, or words to that effect.:pac:

Up the budget a bit maybe and buy the lady a good bike and make it her christmas and birthday present all at once or something, but you stand a much greater chance of success in your venture if you buy the right equipment, and if it still doesn't work, a nice bike will always sell and you shouldn't lose too much money on it. :)

Wow, from your title I thought you were looking for a straight swap. Guess I'll hold on to my bicycle so...

2nd hand is doable for that money, with luck/patience.

There have been a few lovely bikes around that price in the Adverts subforum. The problem is that it takes ages for them to come up and they're often the wrong size.

My wife is a short arse so I bought a cheap used frame and stuck a new groupset (Veloce) and wheels on it. Ended up spending more than the cost of a new cheap bike on it, but got exactly the spec I wanted (silver Campag triple, Campag wheels, bar tape wrapped properly etc).

How tall is your wife, or what size bike are you looking for?

For something as long as the ROK, that Giant Hybrid wouldn't necessarily be the correct tool for the job

Get a new wife who doesn't want to cycle.

My 2nd hander is exactly the same, probably spent more than an entry level new bike, but got just what I was after. (Also a campag triple, brooks saddle, fulcrums, etc...). Off topic, but campag were supposed to be releasing a new range of triples, but I haven't seen them advertised anywhere.

Could be fine. My sister rides a Giant rapid hybrid which is similar enough and has done a number of sportifs on it. You'd certainly get around the course on the Dash, and it could be a good choice for someone that didn't fancy drops. IMO, the €350 asking is a bit on the steep side though.

I would say she is probably 5-6" or so in height. Wouldn't have a clue how that equates to a bike size.

"IMO, the €350 asking is a bit on the steep side though." ....might keep my eye on this all the same as it sounds ideal for her. What would you say is a reasonable price for same???? I goggled same and a 2012 version would be €600 +/- or so
