Been looking for an faq type thing for this and couldn't find it so I thought I'd try boards. I've done a search but the only thread that was worth reading was about a year ago and this was shortly after it came out, I assume a few people here have used this in the last year.

I'm flying away next Sunday and I'd like to check in with the app. I have a bag checked in, I take it I'll just drop this off easily enough?

From what I read I can save a qr code as an image and present that as my boarding card, is this right?

Also one person doesn't have a smartphone, can I check in more than one person with the one phone or does it get a bit messy at the gate, having to take the phone back and switching the pictures on the screen? Would sending that person a picture message of the qr code be enough?

    Thanks for any responses.

I know you'd like to try out the new technology but if you're dropping off a bag I wouldn't bother, just check-in the old fashioned way and it's just as quick to do it for the two of you at the same time, especially if your friend doesn't have a smartphone.

Not offence intended, but is this advice coming from someone who has used the app, and therefore knows it might be more hassle than it's worth?

No, it's from someone who recently flew with Aer Lingus and who had to drop off a bag at which stage it became obvious that printing off a boarding pass at home wasn't worth the hassle (paper jam) given that I had to walk up to a clerk at a desk anyway at which point I realised that doing the boarding card at home just wasn't worth it.

If I was you I'd wait to try out the app to get a boarding card barcode when (1) you are not checking in a bag and (2) you are not travelling with someone who can't sort out their own boarding card.

Getting a barcode or QRCode in lieu of a boarding card isn't going to save you one second if you are dropping off a bag plus there is the risk that you will accidently delete the message or lose the phone. You can still check-in from home and reserve your seat but I'd pick up the boarding card when dropping off the bag.

Don't write me off as a luddite, I have the Aer Lingus app installed on my iTouch but based on previous experience with their apps I wouldn't be too keen to use it and rely on it to get me past security plus I really don't fancy having to whip out my phone and retrieve a message to get past security and at the gate and potentially when I step on to the plane, instead of a paper boarding card that I can keep in a shirt pocket.

A little harsh, I don't think what I said came across like this at all if it did then it certainly wasn't mean to, I was just wondering if you were speaking from experience.

Thanks for your input, it's appreciated.
