Postponing cattle test?

    hello Folks,

I bought a few animals in April/May who were just tested. These are currently the only animals on the farm.I got a letter from the department the other day saying I needed to do cattle test before 26 Sept. For TB and brucellosis. Anyone have an idea Why?
Also, as I will sell these before winter can I wait and test them later? Or is this a serious offense?
Is the limit between testing and selling 30 days?

    Tks a lot in advance,

    Eamon

every herd either big or small needs to have a test some time in the year ,

You can postpone it for a bit but if you push it too far you will be issue a closed letter, this will stop you buying in as well as selling until passing a test.

Get the test done when you are told to. Dont draw unwanted attention on yourself from the department. All animals must be tested for TB which lasts for 12 months. All females over 18 months must be tested for brucellosis which lasts for 60 days (this is done every 2nd year now). You need to talk to your vet.

I agree with Tanko. Last year I fell foul of the Department by running late with my test. I fell and hurt my ankle just before the test was due. I rang and asked them to give me a bit of lee way, but it was with a struggle they gave me 2 weeks and warned me that my herd would be closed if I didn't get the test done. I enlisted a neighbour to help in the end as it took ages for my leg to heal.
The Department is set in stone on stuff like this.

Possibly you live in an area that has a bad name for TB? As mentioned above, talk to your vet.

thanks for all the replies lads.

called the dvo today were very helpful. Pushed the date back to mid Nov when they heard all my animals were tested in April, without me even having to ask them. Sorted.
