Help updating my locked iPhone?

    Hi everyone,

The subject actually meant to say UN-locked iPhone, but anyway!

I bought an iPhone 4 on ebay about a year ago. It is jailbroken and unlocked, using a Gevey sim.
I'm very happy with it, but the only problem is I can't update it on iTunes or it locks and I can't get back into it. This means I can't update to iOS 5 or anything, which is annoying because alot of apps now require this update.

Is there anything that can be done about this?! I would love to be able to update my phone! Any help anyone could give me would be much appreciated.

    Thanks :)

You could request a proper unlock from Apple/carrier. This would let you update and still keep the unlock.

you can use sn0wbreeze to create an ipsw which will preserve the baseband so you can unlock again, if you go to settings>general>about what does it say for version and modem firmware

If I do get it unlocked, would I just then insert my sim without the Gevey? And would I lose any data from my phone?

yes unlocking it that way will allow to use any sim and update anytime and secondly you won't lose any data
