renting dvds online

Hi, i have been snooping around for info on this topic but it all seems to be quite old now :(

Basically going back about two years I was signed up to a dvd rental company that were based in Mulhuddart. I came across them on the 'movies at' website. I can't remember the name but I never had a problem with them. The only reason i froze the account was because I didnt have time to watch dvds due to work etc.

Last year when I had more spare time I went to 'unfreeze' my account but I think they have finished up. I couldn't find them :( So i signed up to a new company. I can't remember the name of that company either but they were a disaster! I was on the unlimited dvds a month but they only sent me one dvd in the month despite loads and loads being in my rental que. So I cancelled the subscription after the month and sent a very angry email.....

So now I am back again with more spare time as the Winter approaches and I am wondering is there ANY online dvd rental company out there that sends dvd's promptly!!! I don't want to sign up to anyone without some recomendations.

Does anybody know the first company I mentioned? They were fantastic and I am kicking myself for not keeping tabs on them!

Any recomendations would be appreciated :)

Was it Moviestar ? They have been bought out by Screenclick who are the largest Irish dvd rental outlet.
I recently signed on with them and await the first dvd's. They ask you to rank your rental list as 'low, medium high' . I would have preferred a 1 to 10 list but reserve judgement.

    Hi all,
just an update. Signed on for a free trial with Screenclick. Got 2 movies in my 'high' ( priority ) list by return of post. The nice thing is that I won't watch them until the weekend, no more late fines from Xtravision.!
I'm wondering about Netflix - you need an internet compatable TV to use it ? I'm not going to watch a movie on my computer. !

Netflix works on a pc, ps3, wii, iphone, internet tv, htpc among others. I'd highly recommend getting it

Xtra-visiondirect.ie also rent online, whatever you do, don't go with onlinedvdrental.ie

Interesting that there's still people who rent movies

We live rural so no good store near us. We use screen click and find them great, honest and reliable.
A tip a friend gave me was to get a clone software package of the internet, he clones the DVDs and sends them back ASAP and then watches them at his leisure, constantly cloning the DVDs as they come in.
I don't bother, get two at a time and it works well.

;) Looks like I'm only getting 5 mb/s so no Netflix.
I got tired of Xtravision, they have moved premises in my town and seem more interested in renting games and selling birthday cards/sweets/drinks than in stocking a good range. All world cinema has gone. Screenclick are a little better, at least its easier to navigate online.

I used Screenclick for 3 months. I cancelled my subscription and they still took another month's membership fee. It was a poor service, averaging 1 dvd per week. The mail delivery in my area in Dublin is very good. From looking at my online account, my returned dvd would be acknowledged at 11am or so, and the next dvd would not be posted out until the following day. I always had 10 or more choices in my selection list and I would often get the lowest ranked choice on my list. It was like they actually didn't care about sending out to a paying customer. I was amused to see that they had an ad in yesterday's Sunday Independent newspaper. Do not use Screenclick, it is a terrible waste of money!

Looks like http://www.onlinedvdrentals.ie/ is gone bang. The site hasn't been updated in months. Anyone use them confirm?

The guy who ran it runs/ran petfactory.ie and that looks like its gone too (out of date blog & Facebook deleted).
