Saorsat on Ka-sat @ 9 degrees on Dreambox with Astra 28.2E

I have a Dreambox 800 HD and I'm using a Triax 120cm Dish with a Disqec motor. The satellites I'm tuned to is the Astra 28.2E.

My question is can I scan for Saorsat on Ka-sat at 9 degrees east.

On my tuning settings it says
    DiSEqc A/B
    Sats Astra/Eurobird (28.2E), Hotbird(13.0E)
    .

    Do I need Hotbird 13.0E. Can I change this for Ka-sat 9E?
To do this do I need to change my LNB which is this one? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Triax-Quattro-LNB-/370618980422?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Satellite_LNBs&hash=item564a9cd846
The only 9E sat that appears on my box is Eurobird 9E

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

The best solution would be get a Saorview box, connected to an aerial, then, at least, you would get TV3 and 3e, which you won't on Saorsat.

Yes you will need another LNb for KA band. You would also need a diseqc switch, mount the new LNB slightly to one side and aim to the "wrong" part of the sky, otherwise you would not get the normal satellites. In other words it can be done but is a lot of hassle and you don't even get the full channel list (no TV3/3e)
BTW there's far more interesting stuff on 13°E anyway

I doubt your current LNB is a quattro, more likely a quad unless you have a multiswitch setup.

Yes you would need a different LNB. There is only one make, it's a KA LNB.

You could use both LNBs on the one dish. For simplicity it would be better to swap the LNB initially to the KA version.

You only seem to be using your motor for one satellite, then why do you have it? Who set up your motor and are you 100% sure it is setup to change from one position to another properly? Before attempting Saorsat and other LNBs you should be sure your motor is working and you should move to other satellites using the current LNB. When you have done this then, using the current LNB move to 9 East and confirm you have received some 9E transponders with the current LNB. Finally swap the LNB and do a blind scan if possible.

    Regarding your motor you say
    "DiSEqc A/B
Sats Astra/Eurobird (28.2E), Hotbird(13.0E). " which suggests, I think, your system is setup for a DiSEqC switch instead of a motor. Get any motor problems sorted before attempting Saorsat. For a motor you need motor settings and ideally USALS. But this should have been done during installation of the motor.

So assuming your motor is setup and you can scan 28.2 move to other positions and scan etc. there are other things to note:

Saorsat only covers Ireland (I see you are in D11)
Saorsat does not carry TV3 nor 3E, you are recommended to get saorview.

So now assuming you have swapped the LNB and got Saorsat the next step is to mount both LNBs on the motorised dish. Mount 28.2 at the centre. Mount KA as close as possible probably using heavy tape. Connect up a 2 port DiSEqC after the motor but before the LNB. Put 28.2 LNB at port 1 and KA as port 2. Set up your box to use a motor and a DiSEqC switch (if the box allows it) Set up the normal LNB and confirm it is working. Then move the motor to, not 9E but slightly one side or the other, and switch to the KA LNB. If you have the channels already saved them move the motor to the east and west until you get Saorsaty. In the end Saorsat may end up appearing as say 12E as the LNB is not in the centre but offset slightly. If you get all the above to work automatically you can switch automatically from Satellite to Satellite and from KA to ordinary LNB.

PS Eurobird 9E is the same position in the Sky as KA 9E

Thanx for the reply but I have a soarview TV. I'm trying to find out about having two satellites on the one box i.e. having channels on the one box.

    Buy yourself one of these:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hauppauge-WinTV-NOVA-T-USB-Stick-freeview/dp/B000F8RPQE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347729251&sr=8-1

Stick it in back of your HD receiver in one of the 2 usb slots. Go to Menu/plugins/press green to download plugins and select drivers and download the driver ending in 700
Then go to service searching and configure your new tuner b to europe terrestrial and plug your tv aerial into stick and complete service scan. Now you have saorview and satellite on one receiver with 7 days epg for all channels.

I was using one of these http://www.buyincoins.com/new_en/details/digital-tv-hdtv-dvb-t-usb-stick-dongle-tuner-recorder-receiver-product-70.html But all of the channels have gone. Even after a rescan it doesn't pick up anything. Strange though my box still recognises it and its listed under tuners.

Gerb68 Saorview in Dublin changed recently. If you signal went you need to manually rescan on channel 30. If you still do not get anything it may be that your aerial is not working well on the changed frequency. Some aerials are besigned for certain "groups" of channels and do not work well on other groups.

If you are using an indoor aerial try a professionally installed rooftop aerial.

Thanx a lot zg3409, That was also at the back of my mind and it seems to make a lot of sense as the box has no issues with the DTT dongle.

And thanx especially for the detailed response about Saorsat and the DiSEqC motor. I haven't used the motor even though it is working. I installed it so to get more involved with the whole satellite experience. I keep meaning to getting round to setting up USALS. Maybe with the help of this http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f210/guide-setting-up-usals-dm800-108809/ (I'm also worried about losing my signal altogether as it was hard to find origionally).
