I have a collection of 4.3 15 inch portables, some my own and some not, about 10 in total. most in mint condition , seldom used although a few are well used.
Unfortunately i see no future use for them other than taking them to the recycling yard.
Should i keep some of them, has anyone any ideas on what use i could put them to in the future.
Realistically they are to small and valueless to be buying saorview boxes for.

They might do a bedroom/kitchen in an area with UPC analogue.

    They make a good doorstop!

Naw, they are too big for a doorstop.

Don't chuck them out until you check that they have a SCART socket or RCA input (separate yellow-red-white sockets).

If they do, they can be converted for Saorview/Satellite/digital Cable reception with the relevant boxes, if you want.

If not, they can still be used for analogue cable which will continue post 24 October.

If they work and do have the relevant connections, why no leave into your local charity shop. I'm sure they could get a few bob for them

I think the OPs point is that even if they have a Scart connection it wouldn't be worth buy a box for them as a brand new small portable would be only a few euro more. I imagine that no charity shop would take a TV at present.

In post ASO areas in the UK, recycle centres were inundated with 4X3 crt tvs, you could not give them away literally!.........such is the consumer society.

Although that is true, the local British Heart Foundation shop takes them and have a shelf full on sale at around £40 each and they seem to sell them.

I will check with the charity shops locally, is it a sign of the times how many of these charity shops are appearing on the high streets?.
I am thinking about keeping the best of them and recycling the rest.
There are 4 of them that are as new, maybe in years to come our grandchildren will look at them mounted on walls of pubs as antiques the same way as old valve radios are displayed now. (bbc light, athlone, luxemborg etc.)

    £40?

A small portable CRT is one of the only things I've failed to sell on adverts.ie, no interest whatsoever even at €20 asking and perfect with SCART, text, original remote, manual etc.. CRT portables are truly worthless unfortunately. :( Recycle centre if you have no use for them.

Well to be honest i did check a few charity shops in Derry today, just on a reconnasssince misssion and one had a portable with inbuilt vcr and remote for 14 pounds and another had a basic with remote for a fiver.
Now a portable with inbuilt vcr makes sense to hold on to if you have a collection of old video tapes, saves the need for a vcr player.

If they do have scart/rca video and audio inputs they would make excellent monitors for a Raspberry Pi linux computer, donate them to a school and point them in the direction of the Raspberry Pi, and they will be able to get an excellent entry into teaching computer programming (proper programming, not learning how to use word processors etc.) there is always a need for programming literate people inthis world, and the RPi only costs around , £90 if you add keyboard and psu / sd card and usb hub. A very powerful and flexible tool. Cheap (proper) computing for schools.
The crt has it's uses yet, especially in these tight times.

used in conjunction with this excellent piece of work

The TV section on adverts.ie has a few pages of CRT sets for free or €1. Looks like they don't move too quickly either.
