Does anyone make or buy there Pheasant feeders for their Clubs or for there own Property I was thinking of making some for our Club I have 22 x 25 kg plastric drums and can get as many as I need as just need to fit the spring and legs and as we have a bigger drums as feeders in our Club these would be ideal and better to move from field to field and better as no clip to secure just pull the lid of and fill with food;)

Well i would strongly advise you not to use springs or you will wind up feeding every crow in the country , get an air filter out of a lorry or out of a loading shovel ,cut out a square and place it over the hole, you will find the phesant will only knock out enough to eat, sometimes phesants will stay messing at a spring until they have a large quantity of feed on the ground.

The wright feeder or a pan feeder is also very ggod. If you are having problems with crows put some branches around the feeder. Pheasants dont mind scurrying around them but crows don't like to be confined.

If you site the pheasant feeders under trees, don't have them out in the open. Crows don't feed under trees.

Sorry lads but i tried all these things when the weather turns cold enough the crow will go anywhere but what i sugest is gust a piece of a filter that will have holes around 4 to 5 mm, flatten a piece around 4 inches square and screw it where you bore out the hole for the spring and hang your feeder high enough that the phesant can gust reach it at full stretch

If u hang ur feeder around the hight of the top of ur wellington boot pheasants can reach it and crows dont bother and once the cold weather sets in the crows will try to feed shoot one hang for 1 week and no crows will even fly over the feeder for 2 months

I tried oats once and they didn't take to it too well, I use barley as its handy for me and they seem to like it!

I made a wight feeder out of waven pipe, works well and doesn't rust, it's time consuming drilling all the holes but it was free!!!!

    I'll take a pic later

Would advise against using spring/wright feeders as it causes the pheasants to pick off the ground in the pen. This is one of the biggest causes that gapes spread around. Try and use tray feeders on the bottom of barrels it also stops crows getting at the food.

I bought a load of Wright feeders from McEoin's at €4.60 each. About the same as from the UK but the P&P is much cheaper from McEoin. Their feeders have a large flange which makes them easier to secure to the barrels, I used to use the original small flanged ones and they can be a pain. I've 45 feeders on the ground and all are now fitted with Wright feeders. Springs clog up and cause a lot of waste.

We had that problem last year we are adding a mix this year will be a little bit more expensive but worth it till the Birds are going in and out of the pen,

    Thanks.
