Import tax issue, need help!

    Hi all,
    on wednesday i purchased this shirt from the valve store. http://store.valvesoftware.com/product.php?i=D0200. The delivery cost was $11.99 with dhl. I was out when the package arrived today so got a call from my mom to say it had arrived. As expected i got caught for import vat. A whopping 23.69 euro!!!! This can't be right can it. Thats practically a 90% tax on my item. What should i do. Thanks in advance!

    That is a bit High.
    DHL probably charged a fee also plus your tax.


    Revenue are skinning goats lately to pay our Trokia masters. :(

    You should ask why you have been charged so much i myself would be angry to be charged crazy amount.

    It is a $31.99 shirt after all.

    23.69 Tax ? Seems wrong.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I'll ring dhl tommorrow and see where it gets me.
    If anyone else knows the tax rates etc. for import vat please reply!

    the standard rate of VAT is 23% from January 2012.


    Rough calculation no more than 6euro tax plus DHL admin fee.

    AFAIK, DHL charge a €10 admin charge on every customs transaction.

    Total import duty & taxes due: €9.97 Total landed cost: €53.33
    Then add DHL's cost 10 euro.

    so grand total 63.33 euro.

    Seems DHL are what you are mostly paying for.
